Two Things I Haven’t Been Able To Replicate On My Mac

in Uncategorized

Some of you will remember I bought an iBook a month and a half ago. I love it, and I’ll never go back to Windows for my primary work machine. In hindsight, I can’t imagine how I lasted as long as I did!

Anyway, there are two things I haven’t been able to replace and am upset about.

First, RealRhapsosody is not available for the Mac. While the iTunes service is nice, in my opinion, when you are testing and researching music it doesn’t even come close to the flexibility and value of RealRhapsody. I hope a client is coming soon.

Second, MindManager, the excellent mind mapping application for Windows. There are mind map alternatives for the map, but the best of the best still is only 1/10th of the application MindManager is. I hope they port it or the Mac applications step it up.

Two years ago I switched to my G4 Mac notebook.  I did this out of pure frustration with PC’s and viruses.

It is the best business move I have ever made.  No down time.  Easy to use.  Microsoft Office available on the Mac, but it works.

Before the mac my business was threatened constantly by viruses.  Now I can use my computer as a reliable tool rather then a constant problem.

I’ve made the switch and tried many Mac mindmapping solutions. I have tried Novamind and many others. Inspiration is mostly aimed at kids. Tinderbox is powerful and complicated ugly and technical. So far I’ve found nothing I’m happy with at all.

Don’t forget the Third thing you can’t replicate. The 70,000 viruses infecting everything Windows and to go along with them don’t forget the Malware loggers Spyware and all other infestations. I’m sure it won’t be a hardship to keep all your data and not have to reformat the hard drive and reinstall all that crapware.

There are some alternative mind mapping software packages available.  Here is a URL for a list of links:

    Hi

I can second the comments about Inspiration being a replacement product for mind mapper software. It’s now available for OSX and that’s the route I’ll be going myself.

Like you I swapped to Mac (nearly 18 months ago now!) - how did I manage for all those years before?

You are one of many people that I say the same thing. They are hooked on the OSX interface. Microsoft had better get their act together or they may find their dominance dissolve.

    Have you tried Tinderbox ?

I don’t know for sure but after looking at the mind mapper website I think the replacement product you might be looking for is Inspiration.

I didn’t know about realrhapsody till I read this. I looked it up and found that it has to do with streaming music. The catalog is smaller than that available on iTunes. How is it different?

As to mind mapping software, I agree with Peter that you look at NovaMind.

I also have a question. Can you say something about how you use MM software? I’ve looked at it and tried it a bit but didn’t see how it would serve me better than simpler outliners. (I freely admit I have never been good at making organized notes.)

As I understand it, Real is planning on it.

I know nothing of mind mapping.  I saw NovaMind, though.  Is that any good?

Definitely drop a note to the folks who make MindManager, though, and mention that you would love it if they wrote a Mac version.  It does work…

Compare the speeds of the PC you normally use to run Mindmanager and the speed of your iBook. If the iBook is significantly higher in speed then you should get Virtual PC and run Mindmanager. Since not all companies worry about supporting every platform, sometimes VPC is a good choice.
