Restaurants with Flash web sites and menus

in On Local Business Marketing

In the, “what the $&%# was your web designer thinking” category …

In the last two weeks I have had three clients visit for consulting. We met in my office and chose different restaurants to have a meal after our session.

How did we choose?

Yelp to see what was nearby, then a visit to the potential restaurants web sites.

Oh, and like many folks nowadays, we used either an iPhone or an iPad to do the browsing.

So, we browse over to the site.

Look at the menu to see what is good.

And…

Some goofball web designer sold the restaurant a site that will only display the menu in flash.

Seriously.

Three restaurants lost out on a healthy check with a nice tipper because their web sites are not optimized for the mobile world.

I started building website for small businesses a few years ago. Even then I refused to build FLASH websites even then I knew FLASH would hurt their business.

Today it is just stupid like as stated in the article Apple products cannot view flash.

According to Google 90% of local searches are looking to buy and out of those 90%, 70% are done mobile.

So if you are not marketing mobile you lost 70% of your potential business.

This will offend many people but graphic designers and web designers are not marketer you need to hire a marketer.

Why take marketing advice from people who are broke.

Respectfully,
Chris Brown

Chris not all Graphic Designers are broke nor do we all support flash web sites. I also feel most graphic designers turn web designers don’t no what the hell they are doing when it comes to building a web site that sells or will increase traffic and income.

Hi Peter,

I think you can track all your mobile visitors from Google Analytic itself, there is a option in google analytics which let you track all the traffic sources including mobile also.

Can anyone tell me if its possible to determine how many unique visits a restaurant’s website has from MOBILE devices such as the Iphone or Android without putting Google analytic code on the website? Does Alexa or anyone else offer this information? Thanks!

Hi, we very well kinow the problems. As internet marketers have been having a hard time, many are moving into the local business market. The problem often is that they have no knowledge of the needs of local business. This leads them to sell the services that they are familliar with, not those that best fit their customers. Before setting up any marketing program we have in depth consultations with our clients to define their particular needs and the marketing solutions to these needs.
There is no one solution fits all.
